Our Journey

Acclaimed to be one of India’s largest dairy and food ingredient manufacturers, Mahaan has been a pioneer in this business since its commencement in 1987. We embarked on this journey of turning fresh milk into the products of daily use—ghee, milk powders, coffee and tea creamers and nutrition supplements.

Our Milestones

1987
Mahaan Group Founded

In 1987, Mr. Amar Nath Goyal and Mr. Sanjeev Goyal established Mahaan with a mission to provide safe, tasty and high-quality dairy products for the Indian consumer.

Mr. Goyal decided to foray into the dairy industry; thereby leading to the establishment of manufacturing unit Mahaan in Paonta Sahib (Himachal Pradesh).

During the 1980s, Mahaan’s Paonta Sahib facility was processing 36 million kilograms of fresh milk annually to produce pure ghee and dairy creamers — the feature products of the Mahaan portfolio.

The capacity to process 1,25,000 kilograms of fresh milk daily at Mahaan was used to manufacture an exclusive retail portfolio of pure ghee, milk powders and dairy creamers.

1990
Ace International founded

Set up as the exporting arm of Mahaan, Ace International became the largest exporter of dairy products in India for export to North America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Latin America and Oceania. In 1997, Ace International was recognised as a 5-star export house by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India.

Being granted the status of a buyer house enabled the organisation to automatically bid and apply for all global tenders for all products. Ace International sold cargo to over 30+ countries across the globe.

Set up under the name Mahaan Proteins, a green-field facility in Kosi Kalan (UP, India) was commenced to foray into processing milk to cater to the needs of the nutrition and pharmaceutical segments.

The Paonta facility was listed on the BSE to trade as Mahaan Foods Ltd. wherein 180 million kilograms of milk was processed annually at the Kosi factory. This facility was ISP, USP, JP, BP and Pharmacopia approved.

The Paonta facility, in the meantime, continued to manufacture retail consumer products like ghee, milk powders, sauces, pickles (brand name: Tastemaker) and biscuits, all under the umbrella name: Mahaan.

Exclusive partners for global dairy manufacturers

Ace International LLP became India’s exclusive channel partner for two of the world’s largest dairy cooperatives: Arla Foods from Denmark and Agropur (formerly Davisco Foods) from the US-Canada region. This strategic partnership further strengthened the company’s position in the dairy and food ingredient distribution market in India.

Furthermore, after the family restructuring in 2008, Mahaan expanded its operations by operating a leased facility in Kurukshetra, Haryana, India, under the leadership of Mr. Sanjeev Goyal.

The third generation of the family business marked the entry of Mr. Aditya Goyal into the dairy operations, thereon initiating a green-field project in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. With a capacity of processing 12,000 MT of ghee annually and 500,000 kilograms of fresh milk daily, this facility was commissioned in 2015. Additionally, the annual capacity for spray-drying powders was set at 9,000 MT.

Furthermore, Ace International expanded its network by representing other notable dairy manufacturers like Eurial, Bonilait, Cremo, and more.

Simultaneously, it ventured into establishing its own ingredient brands, Protex and Probuild.

Ultra high hygiene Swiss mixing line

At our facility Mahaan Milk Foods Ltd. in Hathras (Uttar Pradesh, India), we enhanced our capacities by installing ultra-high hygiene engineered dry mixing lines of Gericke. This line gave us an additional dry-blending capacity of 20,000 MT of product per year.

Mahaan progressed further by commissioning a Tetrapak turn-key dry-blending facility that has a pneumatic conveying for products with varying bulk densities, ensuring product homogeneity. It also has Bosch filling lines of varying packing types and sizes. This state-of-the-art facility houses world-class equipment, is fully automated [SCADA-operated] and houses two hygiene-engineered Gericke blenders. The capacity of this facility is 30,000MT of powder product per year.

In addition, Mahaan Milk Foods expanded its horizons by forming a strategic alliance with the fourth-largest dairy cooperative, Land O’Lakes Inc. to provide highly innovative, delectable and custom seasoning solutions to the Indian market via the company Ingredient Craft.

We expanded our manufacturing capabilities by transitioning from dairy to a nutrition plant, which included installing a dry ingredient dosing system. We focused on developing nutritional base powders and formulas through precise dosing of oils, vitamins, and minerals. Additionally, we enhanced our capacity and optimized processes to minimize downtimes, ultimately achieving 100% plant automation for smoother operations.
